Koelnmesse is explicitly striving to create the world’s most attractive inner-city exhibition centre so that it can continue to provide exhibitors and visitors with an appropriate setting for trade fairs, congresses and other events in the future. That’s why Koelnmesse is planning to make major investments in the future of the exhibition centre and the trade fair program until 2030. The plan is titled “Koelnmesse 3.0” and encompasses investments of more than Euro 600 million until 2030. Koelnmesse intends to align the exhibition centre and the infrastructure with the requirements of the trade fair business in the coming years, which means that its primary focus will be on the demands of exhibitors and visitors. However, Koelnmesse is not only investing in the future of the trade fair venue, but also in the future of the entire region.

Future challenges

Koelnmesse launched the Koelnmesse 3.0 investment programme in response to the new demands that organisers, exhibitors and visitors are making on the efficiency, flexibility, appeal and equipment of trade fair locations. As a trade fair organiser, Koelnmesse is already mainly a provider of services, especially in the field of communications. The trade fair halls are being turned into event areas.

Quality has priority over quantity

In view of changing customer requirements, the project Koelnmesse 3.0 does not focus on increasing the exhibition area, but on boosting the quality of the existing areas, optimizing the versatility of the exhibition grounds and boosting the integration of trade fairs and congresses as a future-oriented business model. Important considerations in this context include easy access to the exhibition centre, the car parks and the logistics areas so that exhibitors, visitors and equipment can get into the halls without any difficulty.
