Martim Hotels celebrates 50th anniversary
The first Maritim Hotel opened in the town of Timmendorfer Strand in 1969 with an innovative concept: offering guests a convention venue and accommodation under one roof. Since 1988, the Maritim Hotel at the Heumarkt has been a fixed point in Cologne as well. Here it is the venue of numerous business events, congresses and carnival sessions. This year the hotel chain is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Among other things, it has launched a donation campaign to benefit the children’s home charity SOS-Kinderdorf.
The hotel chain’s founder, Hans-Joachim Gommolla, was often told “You won’t make a penny!” when he spoke to people about his plans to build a huge hotel with spacious halls and conference facilities. But he didn’t give up his idea, and he soon implemented it with great success. In the 1970s his first hotel was followed by six new Maritim Hotels in Germany. In 1980 he opened the first Maritim Hotel abroad, on Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Today the Maritim hotel chain is the biggest owner-operated German hotel chain worldwide. It is represented in seven countries: Mauritius, Egypt, Turkey, Malta, Spain, Bulgaria and China.
A donation campaign and a special cocktail to celebrate the anniversary
The hotel chain is celebrating its anniversary with a variety of offers and campaigns. For example, Maritim is offering coffee and tea specialties served in a commemorative anniversary mug. Fifty cents of every mug it sells will go to the children’s home charity SOS-Kinderdorf. There’s also a specially created cocktail that can be ordered in all of the Maritim Hotels in Germany.
The Maritim Hotel Cologne, which was founded in 1988, is a partner of the CCB in its category of convention hotels. The CCB congratulates Maritim for 50 years of successful operation and looks forward to continuing cooperation with it in Cologne.
