[KölnTourismus]In 1709, the perfumer Johann Maria Farina created a fragrance, which he later called "Eau de Cologne" in honour of the city he’d chosen as home. To this day, the fragrance is produced using the original recipe. The family-run firm’s premises houses a fragrance museum in which visitors can discover the history of Eau de Cologne.
In Cologne's Glockengasse, about 100 years later, another Eau de Cologne production facility came into being. Find out where the name 4711 comes from and let yourself be carried away by the world of fragrances. At every hour between nine a.m. and seven p.m. a Glockenspiel plays the Marseillaise.
