From 21 - 25 August, the city becomes the epicentre of the world-wide gaming industry again. For the tenth time, gamescom happens in the exhibition halls of Koelnmesse and the organisers expect another exhibitor-record:  The landmark of 1.000 exhibitors is expected to be reached.

In the course of the past ten years, gamescom has developed to a city-wide event with a broad range of events. An overview: The gamescom trade fair includes the business area with exhibitors from more than 50 countries and the open-to-public entertainment area. Additionally, the gamescom city festival combines music, street food, games and entertainment happenings throughout Cologne’s centre. The gamescom congress takes place in the Congress-Centrum and offers a broad programme on the relevance of gaming technology for all kinds of aspects, from societal issues to the digitalisation of business sectors.

Public keynotes, the gamescom award, the cosplay village: The gamescom website gives detailed information on where and when each event takes place as well as the locations of each booth in the trade fair halls.

Interview with Felix Falk: The gaming sector, the festivalisation of trade fairs and congresses and his perspective on the City of Cologne

In a conversation with the CCB, Felix Falk, Managing Director of game - the German Games Industry Association, explains the importance of computer and video games for the society, politics and the economy. For him, the numbers of visitors are proof for the success of combining the event with an open-to-public festival: The gamescom has become one of the biggest trade fairs in Germany, way bigger than the CEBIT in Hannover, the IFA in Berlin or the Frankfurt Book Fair.
